Welcome! It's always nice to have family stop by. It has been over a year since I last updated this site. So, some of the information that is posted here is very out dated. Over the next few months I hope to bring the outdated information more up to date. If you have information on any of the lines posted here please drop me a note via e-mail. Now on to our topic-genealogy. But first, be warned--researching your genealogy is addictive. It is also very rewarding. Yet, it can be very frustrating. I can't tell you how exciting it is to make a previously unknown connection. To the contrary it is very disappointing to search, and search, for a connection that may be lost in history. With that said, you might ask, 'why is researching ones genealogy important?' Well I would answer that with one obvious observation; our society has changed. Did you know that before the invention of the automobile most people never traveled more then twenty miles from the location of their birth. A genealogical study to them meant visiting a little longer at Sunday dinner while listening to and telling family stories. Today many of us live thousands of miles apart and haven't seen each other in years. The frequent contact that our ancestors took for granted is now a luxury. I believe that those Sunday dinners were good for us. The stories and time spent together gave us the background to better understand who our ancestors were; resulting in a better understanding of who we are today. No, a better understanding of our genealogy is not going to make us better people. However, it can help us to understand why we value some of the things we value. Besides, being just plain fun! Even though advances in technology may have 'driven' us apart, another technological advancement could be the tool to bring us back together--the Internet. The Internet has opened a window of opportunity for reconnecting and researching our family history. With the Internet, relatives that live down the street, across the country or on another continent are just a few key strokes away. No, I am not saying that an Internet connection replaces a Sunday afternoon get together. But, it might make scheduling one a bit easier. My research has already helped me to reconnect with family members that I hadn't talked with in years and to connect with some that I had never met. I look forward to connecting with you as well. You can send me, Cec Barton-Murrah, a personal note at cec@imagesverite.com. I am always looking for photos, birth certificates, death notices, awards, information, family stories, etc. My data base has ten plus generations of Bolters, thirteen plus on our Pace line and seven on the Barton line (Note: John M. Barton and his wife Lizzie Haddict [Haddix?] are the parents of Rome Barton - that information is part of what needs to be updated). Please note: I will NOT post any information about living relatives on the Internet. However, I do need the information to maintain my research. And, I will share that information ONLY with permission! And then, only with other immediate family members. One more thing before you start your exploration of this site. I need to give credit where credit is due. First and foremost I want to thank Virginia Stuart-Gray (Daughter of Mary Audrey Bolter) for her tireless work of researching our family ancestry. She started her research in the 1970's. Without her efforts we, and our descendants, would not have the wealth of family history that is available to us all today. Thank you Virginia for your foresight, persistence and continued work! Another person that must be mentioned is Chris Lane-Tumlin (Granddaughter of Georgia Edna [Bolter] Lane). I have never met, nor had any personal contact with Chris. However, she graciously gave my parents the original genealogical documents that started me on my quest. Thanks Chris for your efforts. Now that all of the important stuff is out of the way - it is time for the fun to begin. Just click on any of the links to your left to start! Enjoy! |
